6 Tips To A Better Donation Experience

1. Drink Extra Water.

For routine activities, 8 glasses are recommended on a daily basis. The day before donating blood, we recommend drinking 10 to 12 glasses of water.

2. Eat salty treats/snacks.

As long as you don't have any diet restrictions, eat salty snacks/treats the morning of your donation appointment and then again after your donation.

3. Limit strenuous exercise.

For the 24 hours before AND after your donation, limit any strenuous exercise to avoid dehydration.

4. Plan extra time for your donation.

Feeling rushed can elevate your blood pressure and pulse rate, potentially going out of range for blood donation.

5. Eat full meals.

Be sure to eat a full meal prior to your donation. Unlike blood work for your doctor, you DO NOT want to fast prior to blood donation.

6. Tell someone if it's your first time.

If you are a first time donor, let us know. We can walk you through the donation process so you know what to expect at each step during and after your donation.
