98-year-old ‘Rosie the Riveter’ commemorates three decades with Michigan Blood BYRON CENTER, Mich. (January, 2017) – She built aircrafts for General Motors during the war, then moved on to a different plant to ‘cut & sew’. Now, this real-life ‘Rosie the Riveter’ is celebrating something else she’s built: a legacy.

Past Blood Recipient Becomes Repeat Blood Drive Host

Mother of three hosts multiple Northern Michigan blood drives in an effort to give back TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. – On June 3rd, 2015, Tina Dunphey went into a scheduled C-section with her husband, Mark, to welcome their third child. Tina had the same procedure with her second child, so they didn’t expect anything out of the ordinary.

Holiday Giving Campaign Begins

MICHIGAN (December 21, 2016) - There's plenty to do during the holiday season, but there's at least one gift that's always in demand. Be the gift that lets others continue to celebrate with their loved ones. For only an hour of your time, you could save the lives of three Michiganders…and get a gift in return. Starting Christmas weekend, Michigan Blood will give blood donors a $10 gift card (while supplies last). After closing for Christmas Day, blood centers will reopen Monday, December 26th, to continue promoting the holiday spirit with those gift cards. The campaign will then continue New Year's weekend, closing for New Years Day, but reopening on the first Monday of 2017! Dates and times for the event vary by location.

Urgent Need for Type O-Negative Blood

MICHIGAN (November 10, 2016) - Michigan Blood is experiencing a shortage of Type O-negative blood, causing low levels at the non-profit’s more than 60 hospital partners. O-negative is the universal blood donor, and often what health providers turn to when performing surgeries or transfusions. At this time hospitals are doing all they can to conserve O-negative blood, but the need will only increase as the holiday approaches.
