Michigan Blood Partners with Covenant HealthCare to Support Covenant Kids

´╗┐´╗┐Michigan Blood is partnering with Covenant HealthCare to host a blood drive to support the Covenant Kids Fund.

The blood drive will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 17 in the Bickel-Geyer Conference Room at Covenant HealthCare, 700 Cooper in Saginaw. Michigan Blood will donate $10 to the Covenant Kids Fund for every person who attempts to give blood. The donation will go toward enhancing the medical care of children, ages 0-17, who are patients at Covenant HealthCare.

“Michigan Blood is proud to partner with Covenant HealthCare as its exclusive blood provider,” said Tamar Chipp, public relations supervisor at Michigan Blood. “This blood drive enables Michigan Blood to support the community twice by making a donation to the Covenant Kids Fund and ensuring blood supply for Covenant HealthCare and our nine other partner hospitals in Mid-Michigan.”

Any healthy person 17 or older (or 16 with parental consent) who weighs at least 110 pounds may be eligible to give blood every 56 days. Blood donors should bring photo ID (or two forms of non-photo ID). Appointments (preferred, but not required) can be made online at www.miblood.org or by calling 1-866-MIBLOOD.

“Covenant is extremely thankful for Michigan Blood stepping up to support Covenant Kids,” said Kristin Knoll, public relations specialist at Covenant HealthCare. “This is a unique opportunity for the community that allows people to have a direct impact saving lives, not only through their blood donation, but also through the donation to the Covenant Kids Fund.”

About Michigan Blood

Founded in 1955, Michigan Blood is an independent, nonprofit blood bank that provides blood for 36 hospitals across Michigan’s Lower Peninsula. Serving Michigan hospitals is the top priority for Michigan Blood, which collects more than 110,000 pints of blood each year at nine permanent donation sites and more than 3,700 mobile blood drives statewide. Related services available from Michigan Blood include a nationally recognized blood stem cell (marrow) program, therapeutic apheresis, DNA tissue-typing, transfusion medicine consultations, and Michigan’s first public cord blood bank. Michigan Blood is a member of America’s Blood Centers, a network of community blood banks spanning North America that together provide half the US blood supply.
