Michigan Blood, an independent, nonprofit community service organization that provides blood products to more than 40 Michigan hospitals, announced the hiring of two new Directors to oversee statewide departmental operations. Dawn Kaiser has been named the Director of Donor Services, and Donna Martorano has been named Director of Volunteer Services.  Michigan Blood has facilities in Grand Rapids, Portage, Saint Joseph, Traverse City, Saginaw, Midland and Bay City. Both Kaiser and Martorano will operate out of the Grand Rapids central offices.

Prior to joining Michigan Blood, Kaiser worked for LifeSource Blood Services in Rosemont, Illinois.  Her most recent position was as Director of Collections.  She also served as a regional manager, center manager, supervisor, donor specialist, and training supervisor.  Mark Palkowski, Vice President of Operations, notes:  “Dawn’s extensive experience with every stage of the blood donation process will be invaluable to Michigan Blood as she works with our staff and volunteers to ensure an exceptional donor experience for each and every donor.  Michigan Blood hosts 3700 mobile blood drives and 9 regional donor centers to collect approximately 2200 units per week to meet the needs of our Michigan hospitals.”

Donna Martorano was named Director of Volunteer Services, having been promoted from Manager of Volunteer Services on July 1, 2013.  She has been with Michigan Blood for 7 years; the last two as Manager.  Martorano oversees 540 volunteers statewide who assist in the post donation station, prep/care, registration floater, and inventory/restocking, as well as volunteer as drivers, greeters, and clerical/computer/phone support.”
