October 7 & 8 – Michigan Blood & Blue Care Network Drive to Benefit the Women's Cancer Fund

Michigan Blood partners with Blue Care Network
of Michigan on a cause based blood drive

When a loved one is diagnosed with cancer, it affects everyone in his or her life. 33% of blood products are used in the treatment of cancer patients. On October 7th and 8th, Michigan Blood will host a benefit blood drive for the Women’s Cancer Fund. For each person who attempts to donate blood at the Traverse City fixed site a $10 donation will be made to the Women’s Cancer Fund. Blue Care Network of Michigan has underwritten this donation.

As a nonprofit community blood bank, Michigan Blood counts on voluntary donors to make sure enough blood is available to help patients at more than 40 Michigan hospitals. More than 120,000 units of blood must be collected each year to fill the need. By participating in this cause based blood drive, donors will not only help to fulfill the need of blood, but also assist in providing funds and raising awareness for the Women’s Cancer Fund.

In addition to the $10 donation to the Women’s Cancer Fund, Blue Care Network of Michigan will also provide t-shirts for anyone who attempts to donate during this event.

Local Breast Cancer survivor Shanna Shea is helping to spread the word of this fundraiser and upcoming drive. During her treatment after a 2002 diagnosis, she received blood and knows the life saving impact it makes.
