Make Your Mark on the Mitten This Labor Day

In celebration of Michigan Blood’s 60th Anniversary, you’re invited to Make Your Mark on the Mitten by saving Michigan lives through blood donation. Give blood during the Labor Day weekend and you can make your mark – literally – on the huge Michigan mittens on display at all of our donor centers. The color you use to make your mark will be according to your personal blood type.

The Michigan mittens will be on display during the 60-day celebration of our 60th Anniversary, which concludes September 16. All of the Michigan mittens from our statewide donation centers will then come together at the Grand Rapids Donor Center during ArtPrize.

The project represents Michigan Blood’s theme, ‘MI Bloodlines.’ Every time you give blood, you give at least one person another day of life - another chance to make a difference for someone else. Even though you aren’t related, the people you help become part of your bloodline.

“Holidays prove to be a challenging time to ensure an adequate blood supply for patients at hospitals around Michigan,” says Carleen Crawford. “The need for blood never takes a holiday. We are asking people to add to their bloodline by giving about an hour of time to help save lives during the holiday weekend.”

As a thank you for taking time out of your busy holiday weekend to donate, anyone who attempts to give blood will receive a $10 Meijer gift card.
