SAGINAW, MICH. (June 28, 2016) – Michigan Blood is partnering with Light the Night of Mid-Michigan to host two community blood drives in July.

The drives will honor five Mid-Michigan children diagnosed with Leukemia and will support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Both drives will run from 3 p.m. – 7 p.m. Friday, July 8 at Midland Baptist Church, 5009 Jefferson in Midland and Wednesday, July 13 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 2565 N. Miller in Saginaw. Michigan Blood will make a donation to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society on behalf of those who donate. Funds raised will help the Society fund research and breakthrough therapies for blood cancer patients.

“Michigan Blood is honored to partner with Light The Night for the third year,” said Tamar Chipp, community relations coordinator for Michigan Blood. “Thirty-three percent of blood products are used in the treatment of cancer patients. This blood drive will help boost the community blood supply and help local patients in need.”

To schedule an appointment to donate, individuals can visit www.miblood.org or call 1-866-MIBLOOD.

Any healthy person 17 or older (or 16 with parental consent) who weighs at least 110 pounds may be eligible to donate, although females age 18 and under must weigh 120 pounds or more. Blood donors should bring photo ID.

Michigan Blood hosts more than 3,700 blood drives a year to help meet the needs of local hospitals across Michigan including Covenant HealthCare, St. Mary’s of Michigan and MidMichigan Health.
