The Verdict Is In: ‘Michigan Blood Saves Lives, Including Mine’

Retired Judge Faye Harrison Weighs in on Her Experience from Blood Donor to Recipient

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (April  1, 2016) – While giving blood for the first time as a freshman at Michigan State University, Faye Harrison was approached by an ROTC commanding officer who wanted to thank her and other donors. “If it weren’t for people like you,” the officer said, “I would have died on the battlefield.” 

The officer’s presence put a real face to the need. The experience would inspire her to become a loyal blood donor and advocate over the next 50 years.

Visit the Michigan Blood bus parked outside the Suburban Collection Showplace on Saturday, April 30, 2016 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Everyone who attempts to donate will receive free admission to the Michigan International Women’s Show. Those who have already purchased a ticket will receive a free Women’s Show bag.

Blood Drive to Honor 9/11 Victims on 15th Anniversary

Michigan Blood partners with Michigan International Speedway for annual ‘Spirit of America’ Blood Drive

The Spirit of America blood drive will return to Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Michigan and it promises to be just as memorable as in years past. This year marks the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

What began in 2002 as a tribute to honor the victims and heroes of 9/11, has now evolved into so much more. This event isn’t just a blood drive - it’s a unique opportunity for the community to honor and remember all those affected by 9/11. Since its inception in 2002, the Spirit of America blood drive has collected more than 10,194 blood products, potentially helping save more than 30,438 lives.

Blood Drive in Honor of Kalamazoo County's Mass Shooting Victims

Michigan Blood will donate to fund to help the victims and their families

Michigan Blood invites the community to a blood drive in honor of the victims of Kalamazoo County’s mass shooting. It will take place on Tuesday, March 1 at Michigan Blood’s Kalamazoo Area Donation Center at 524 East Milham Avenue in Portage, from noon until 7 p.m.
On behalf of the donors, Michigan Blood will donate to the “Help Now!” fund set up by the Battle Creek Community Foundation, Kalamazoo Community Foundation, and United Way of the Battle Creek and Kalamazoo Region. The fund will help pay for special financial needs of the victims and their families, as well as community counseling, healing, and safety services that address the aftermath of violence.

Blood Drives Scheduled In Conjunction With LaughFest To Benefit Gilda's Club Grand Rapids

Michigan Blood and Blue Care Network partner for fourth year in a row to support Gilda’s Club Grand Rapids

It’s often said laughter is the best medicine. Unfortunately for many, laughter simply isn’t enough. So for the fourth year in a row, Gilda’s Club Grand Rapids (GCGR) and LaughFest are partnering with Michigan Blood and Blue Care Network to host blood drives leading up to LaughFest. The drives will be held February 29-March 3, 2016.

“We are thankful for this partnership with Michigan Blood and Blue Care Network,” said Wendy Wigger, president, Gilda’s Club Grand Rapids. “Many cancer patients rely on blood product transfusions. Donating blood is a great way for loved ones, and even complete strangers, to make a real difference in the health of patients in need.”
