  • 1 thru July 8 – Traverse City: SUMMER T-SHIRT CAMPAIGN continues at all blood drives and donor centers in Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Leelanau, Manistee, Osceola counties: Give blood (whole blood donation) and receive a coupon for MCBC T-shirt, redeemable at your next donation (campaign ends Sept. 2).
  • 1-31 – Traverse City: 3D 2008 CAMPAIGN continues at all blood drives and donor centers in Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Leelanau, Manistee, Osceola counties: Donate blood 3 times in 2008 and you can receive a special T-shirt at your 3rd donation (and your 6th).
  • 5 – Rockford: DONOR APPRECIATION DAY AT ROCKFORD COMMUNITY DONOR CENTER, Noon to 7 p.m. at Community Cabin, 7 South Monroe Street. Doughnuts for blood donors provided by Arnie’s Old Mill.
  • 6 – St. Joseph: BARBERSHOP HARMONY “SINGING FOR LIFE” BLOOD DRIVE at Michigan Community Blood Centers, 2710 Cleveland Avenue, Noon to 7 p.m. Members of the Benton Harbor-St. Joseph chapter of Barbershop Harmony Society will perform for blood donors throughout the drive. The Benton Harbor-St. Joseph chapter is celebrating their 60th anniversary this year!
  • 1-31 – Saginaw County: ROTARY & KIWANIS CHALLENGE BLOOD DRIVE at Michigan Community Blood Centers main donor center, 1771 Tittabawassee Road, Saginaw; AND at mobile blood drives throughout the county. The winner will be the club that recruits the most blood donors (as a percentage of club membership). A plaque at the Tittabawassee center will honor the winner, plus a traveling plaque will go to the winner until next year’s Challenge.
  • 3 – Traverse City: SINGING FOR LIFE BLOOD DRIVE sponsored by CHERRY CAPITAL CHORUS affiliate of the BARBERSHOP HARMONY SOCIETY, at Main Donor Center, 2575 Aero Park Drive. Give blood 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Barbershop quartets will entertain donors 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., and serve refreshments in canteen.
  • 6 – Saginaw: MID-MICHIGAN REGIONAL BUSINESS EXPO at Saginaw Valley State University Ryder Center. BLOOD DRIVE 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free blood typing 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Anyone who tries to give blood will be entered in a drawing to win one of 10 gift cards ($5 each) from Crumbs Gourmet Cookie Café.
  • 12 through 16 – Grand Rapids: BATTLE OF THE BADGES BLOOD DRIVE at main donor center, 1036 Fuller NE, with public safety employees in police, sheriff, and fire departments throughout Kent County, in a friendly competition to recruit blood donors all week long. Kicking off the campaign on Monday May 12, free food for donors from Hooters, plus WLAV 96.9 broadcasts LIVE 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and donation hours run 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. (Tues-Thurs donate 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Fri donate 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.). All week long, donors can enter season drawing to win a 50-inch HD plasma TV from Decker & Sons Appliance.
  • 14 – Hastings: PENNOCK WOMEN’S HEALTH EXPO from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Pennock Health Services, 1009 West Green Street. FREE BLOOD-TYPE TESTING.
    16 – Traverse City: BLOOD DRIVE WITH WKLT, WFCX, AND WSRT on the Blood Bus at 1020 Hastings Street, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with thank-you gifts for everyone who tries to give blood.
  • 15 – Grand Rapids: REVIVIFY Spa Fundraiser at VASAIO LIFE SPA, 1100 East Paris Avenue, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. $40 per person to enjoy food, beverages, and sample select Vasaio services (choose two from haircut/style, wash & condition, paraffin hand dip & massage, foot soak & massage, microderm abrasion, mini-facial, massage). Gift bags + prize drawing for everyone who attends. Proceeds will support purchase of new electronic sign for the Main Donor Center (Fuller Avenue, Grand Rapids). For reservation, call 616-233-8600.
  • 17 – Zeeland: BLOOD DRIVE TO SUPPORT KRISTINE (HOEKSEMA) PILBEAM, at First Christian Reformed Church 210 East Main Avenue, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Appointments not necessary but preferred (for donation appointment call 616-836-0361 or e-mail HYPERLINK "mailto:jjhoeks@yahoo.com" jjhoeks@yahoo.com). Blood collected at this drive will help satisfy “replacement/credits” requirement for units of blood used by Mrs. Pilbeam during her treatment for leukemia.
  • 22 – Grand Rapids: HONOR OUR HEROES BLOOD DRIVE with STAR 105.7FM at main donor center, 1036 Fuller NE. Hotdogs and chips for donors provided by Forest Hills Foods, ice cream from Bailey’s Grove Coffee & Creamery, plus enter season drawing to win a 50-inch HD plasma TV from Decker & Sons Appliance.

  • 27 – Saginaw: 21st Annual RACE FOR LIFE CAR SHOW & BLOOD DRIVE sponsored by ABC-TV12, WHEELZ, and McDONALD PONTIAC CADILLAC GMC. At main donor center, 1771 Tittabawassee Road, Saginaw, Noon to 8 p.m. Classic car owners are invited to bring their cars for display; public is invited to see the cars and donate blood to boost the community blood supply after the Memorial Day weekend (always a high-need time).
