Give Blood, Play Hockey – Saginaw Spirit Teams With Local Blood Bank
SAGINAW, MI (October 19, 2007): The Saginaw Spirit and Michigan Blood, with promotional support from The Dow Event Center, teamed up to boost the community blood supply during a special blood drive on September 22 at The Dow Event Center. In four hours, 33 people signed in to try to give blood, and 17 pints of blood were collected. The Dow Event Center donated the use of the Garden Room for the blood drive so, with closed-circuit TV, donors could continue watching the Spirit play the Sarnia Sting. Spirit players helped with donor recruitment, including Tomas Zaborsky, who autographed photos for donors (he even told his girlfriend she had to give blood to get the autographed picture she wanted). On behalf of all the people who need blood, thanks to the Spirit for their enthusiastic support of the community blood supply.
Local hockey fans and blood donors will have a second chance to team up for the good of the community blood supply on January 4, 2008, when the Spirit once again will host a blood drive, this time during a home game against the London Knights. Everyone who signs in to give blood will receive a free T-shirt plus two ticket vouchers for a Spirit home game.
