New Community Donor Center Will Open in Hudsonville
Hudsonville, MI (April 5, 2007): On Friday, April 6, 2007, Michigan Community Blood Centers will open a new Community Donor Center at Heritage Reformed Church, 4995 32nd Avenue, Hudsonville..
Blood donors will be welcome to donate every other month, on the first Friday, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Donation dates for 2007 are as follows: April 6, June 1, August 3, October 5, and December 7.
Any healthy person 17 or older who weighs 110 pounds or more may be eligible to give blood every 56 days. Donating a pint of blood takes just 7-10 minutes; the entire process (including registration, health screening, blood donation, and snack/rest period afterward) takes 45-60 minutes.
“We hope this new Hudsonville donor center will provide a convenient location for people in eastern Ottawa County,” said Susan Doyle, who heads telerecruitment for Michigan Community Blood Centers in this region. “We also will continue holding mobile blood drives at various sites in this area, but we think that having a permanent donation site in Hudsonville is an important option for people who prefer donating according to a regular routine, at a specific place and time. What we want to do long-term is encourage more donors to give on a regular basis, because the need for blood continues to grow, and we need a steady flow of blood donations to keep up.”
Michigan Community Blood Centers is the independent nonprofit blood bank that provides 100 percent of the regular blood supply for hospitals in four major regions with a combined population of more than 1. 5 million. According to hospital data, 8 out of every 10 Hudsonville area residents who need hospital treatment are cared for by Grand Rapids hospitals, which rely on Michigan Community Blood Centers for their entire blood supply.
