Blood Supply Emergency – Donors Urgently Needed Now
GRAND RAPIDS-SAGINAW-TRAVERSE CITY, MI: Michigan Community Blood Centers locations all across the state urgently needs blood donors of all types to avert the possibility of a serious blood shortage. Any healthy person 17 or older who weighs 110 pounds or more may be eligible to give blood every 56 days. The current blood supply crisis is a result of the traditional “summer slump” in blood donations, plus the fact that the Independence Day holiday created an extended weekend, when blood donation centers were closed two days in a row. Michigan Community Blood Centers, a nonprofit blood bank, provides 100 percent of the regular blood supply for hospitals in four major regions of the state, with a combined population of more than 1.5 million. For a donation location in your area, call toll-free 1-866-MIBLOOD or visit www.miblood.org.
