Spectrum is 2006 Holiday Hospital Challenge Winner

CONGRATULATIONS to Spectrum Health-Blodgett Campus, which won the 2006 Hospital Holiday Challenge competition in December, 2006. Here, Rich Scholten, Spectrum Blood Bank Manager, accepts the winner’s plaque from Linda Barar, Michigan Community Blood Centers VP for corporate relations. The number of units collected at Spectrum-Blodgett’s blood drive equaled 143% of units drawn at its drive during the 2005 Hospital Challenge. In the current Challenge, the winner was determined by calculating which hospital achieved the greatest increase in units collected over the draw for its blood drive the previous year. “With this year’s method of determining the winner, the size of the hospital did not make a difference, and everyone was on an even playing field,” says Heidi McDaniel, who supervises mobile recruiters in GR. “We really appreciate the ongoing partnership of all the hospitals that participate.” 2006 Holiday Hospital Challenge competitors included Spectrum-Butterworth, Spectrum-Blodgett, Saint Mary’s Health Care, Metro Health Hospital, and Pennock Hospital. The friendly annual competition aims to recruit blood donors and reduce the risk of blood shortages during a high-need season.
