TRAVERSE BAY TWILIGHT ROTARY OF TRAVERSE CITY emerged the victor of this year’s “Rotary Challenge” competition, which engaged six northwest Michigan Rotary clubs in a friendly contest to recruit blood donors during the month of August, in conjunction with Michigan Community Blood Centers in Traverse City. Here Mike Shockley (right), president of the Traverse Bay Twilight Rotary, accepts the winner’s plaque from Peter Wandoff, Blood Center recruiter. The Challenge winner was determined by computing the number of blood donors recruited as a percentage of Rotary club membership. Traverse Bay Twilight Rotary recruited 62% of its total membership. The Rotary Challenge spanned the entire month of August. Besides Twilight Bay Rotary of Traverse City, participants included Rotary Club of Elk Rapids, Rotary Club of Kalkaska, Traverse Bay Sunrise Rotary, Rotary Club of Traverse City, and Suttons Bay-Leelanau County Rotary. Together, the clubs signed in 18% of their combined membership of 547 active Rotarians. Congratulations to Traverse Bay Twilight Rotary and thanks to all the Rotary groups that participated in this campaign to boost the end-of-summer blood supply.
