Volunteer Spotlight - Len Kamsickas

He’s done it again. One of our volunteers has gone above and beyond his usual role. Len Kamsickas started as a volunteer driver and was featured in our Volunteer Happenings newsletter in September of 2013.
Len recruited a company called IAC (International Automotive Components), who has a location in Alma, to do a blood drive for Michigan Blood back in September of 2013. It was very successful, registering 62 donors and drawing 39 pints. IAC not only has a location in Alma, but they also have them in Warren, St. Clair, Port Huron and the Kalamazoo area. Thanks to Len and his son, who is the CEO of IAC, the Alma site is on the books for four more drives in 2014. Next week we are scheduled at the Warren site for eight hours with a projection of 32 and the St. Clair site for 10 hours with a projection of 40!
Len talks about volunteering for Michigan Blood at his family gatherings and everywhere which has triggered interest in our organization. He said there are two to three other sites that have told him they
would also be interested in holding blood drives with us, and that he plans to pass this information on to our donor relations specialists. We owe a huge “THANK YOU” to Len for being such an awesome volunteer! He shows yet another way that volunteers help Michigan Blood out in the community.
If you know of a location, business, church, or school that may be able to help by holding a local blood drive please let us know. And a big thank you once again to Len for spreading the word about blood donation and Michigan Blood.
