Kevin Marion - Michigan Blood’s 500th Blood Stem Cell Donor
11/23/2011
Kevin Marion, 29 of Rochester, who donated peripheral blood stem cells on November 22, became Michigan Blood's 500th donor. Michigan Blood, as part of the National Marrow Donor Program's Be the Match Registry, recruits potential marrow donors for patients across the country and around the world. Kevin's patient is a 57-year-old man who lives abroad.
"If I was in the other position, I'd want someone to donate for me," said Kevin. "It's just a good feeling to know that you're helping someone and saving a life. I would recomend everybody get on the list, just to know that either they could be a match for somebody, or somebody could be a match for them. I think it's a great experience."
Kevin's landmark donation coincides with the Be the Match's 50,000th match. Michigan Blood's matches comprise about 1% of the total matches nationwide. You can learn more about Michigan Blood's Marrow/Stem Cell Program here.
